Preparing WindowsXP for Coptic Unicode
Preparing WindowsXP for writing Coptic text in Unicode requires mainly two steps:1. Installing Unicode fonts with Coptic glyphs
Get at least one Unicode font from this page and install it.
2. Installing an appropriate Keyboard
Install at least one keyboard of the following (of course you can install both, if you want to)
- Get and install the Coptic Keyboard defined by Logos Research Systems from this link.
More information about this Keyboard can be found here.
- If you are used to the CS-Coptic encoding, you can try another keyboard I have prepared with the same keymapping of the CS fonts from here (unzip and then install the file CoptCS01.msi). Though I would advice you to better stick to the mapping of Logos. The layout is shown below.
Note: if you have downloaded the
file before 12.12.2006 please notice that it had few bugs that should
be fixed now. Please use the former
*msi file for uninstalling before installing the newer one above.
You also can download my source file of
the keyboard, if you want to modify it yourself (requires Microsoft
Keyboard Layout Creator).
Keyboard layout in the normal state.
Keyboard layout in the shifted state.
The last step is to go to the keyboard settings of Windows and to add a new language and attach the Coptic keyboard to it. Since Windows has no definition for the Coptic language, you can choose any language you are not using (the following example assumes Greek).
